In our PPE in Healthcare course you will look at the PPE guidance with regards to the healthcare sector and consider healthcare-associated Covid-19 risk at local level and according to local context.

You will know when patients should and should not wear PPE as well as the importance of the safe use of PPE and some information on how employees should be trained to use it.

You also will gain a greater understanding the importance of selecting, using and maintaining PPE.

The information provided in this course is taken directly in line with government recommendations about healthcare contexts and is therefore subject to review and amendment at regular intervals

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

  • Unit 1 - Introduction and Legislation - In the first unit you will look at the legalities of PPE and the laws and legislation surrounding the use of PPE. You will also cover in this unit the changes to previous guidance in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Unit 2 -The Importance of Effective Selection, Use and Maintenance of PPE - From this unit you will know the importance of selecting, using and maintaining PPE. You will also have an understanding what the risk assessments include and look at ways of ensuring the PPE remains effective at all times.
  • Unit 3 - Safe Ways for Working for All Health and Care Workers - This unit considers the importance of the safe use of PPE with information about how employees should be trained to use it including the essential aspect of making sure that it is put on and taken off safely. This unit will also enable you to explore the general aspects of good practice in the workplace.
  • Unit 4 - Preventing the spread of COVID-19 - In this unit you will look at the possible ways of minimizing and preventing the spread of COVID-19. It starts with an exploration of social distancing and self-isolation and why these are important before looking in more detail at specific ways of preventing the spread of the virus both in workplaces and for the general public. PPE, hand washing, personal hygiene and effective cleaning will be covered in detail.
  • Unit 5 - PPE Guidance for Healthcare Context and Patient - In this final unit you will have looked at the PPE guidance with regard to the healthcare sector and consider healthcare-associated Covid-19 risk at local level and according to local context. Information provided is directly in line with government recommendations.
